When you experience heartburn more than twice per week you may have GERD, or Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease. When the sphincter muscle separating the stomach from the esophagus fails, stomach acids backs up into the esophagus causing sharp burning pain.

Over time, the acid can cause damage, pitting, and scarring of the esophagus. This damage can become serious and, although it is rare, cancerous. Currently, there is also growing concern over the long-term use of over the counter heartburn medicines. We offer a permanent solution with our TIF procedure.
